With the client we established the main message of the site and defined the current problems with it. Through the creation of user personas and user journeys possible user flows were discovered and implemented in the early wireframes of the site.
Tutor Thelma was created to put ourselves in the boots of the tutors and imagine the problems they might encounter and their motivation to visit the site. Personas for parents and donors were also created.
The application process in place was not entirely online and was hard to follow through, so we created a user journey to explore the implications of an application process and to see what opportunities may arise in it.
As it was a consulting project, no final product was needed, so we opted to create quick sketched wireframes along with a high fidelity prototype.
As our role was more about consulting than implementing the solutions to the web design, and we did not have coders in our team, a working site was never developed, but VTO members found our work helpful. Retrospectively, more user testing would have been beneficiary with quick prototypes, and more time could have been spent iterating different design solutions. However, it was a great learning experience to look for business solutions for a charity, but also use UX design methodology at the same time.
